PREVIEW OF THE 2018 WEO FESTIVAL
A West Edge Opera House Concert
saturday, June 23
Special guest Frederica von Stade, known to everyone as Flicka, will talk with our music director Jonathan Khuner about her experiences singing the role of Mélisande and recording it with conductor Herbert von Karajan.
- Bass Philip Skinner, who will be our Arkel, will sing selections from Pelléas and Mélisande
- Molly Mahoney will sing excerpts from Mata Hari, by Matt Marks and Paul Peers, in which she will be Sister Leonide.
- We will hear examples of the interesting and exciting sound world of Luca Francesconi, composer of Quartett.
The event will be held at a historic home in the Rockridge area of Oakland. The house was designed by Albert Dodge Coplin (1869-1908) in the colonial revival style, when it was surrounded by open land. In addition to hearing the interview and musical excerpts, you’ll be able to explore the home and its beautiful gardens.
Doors will open at 1:00 and the program will begin at 2:00.
Wine and hors d’ouvres will be served.
