Mozart and Friends is an opportunity to celebrate the work of the 18th and 19th centuries' best composers, all while looking forward to our 2017 Festival production of The Chastity Tree by Mozart contemporary Vicente Martin y Soler.
Bass-baritone Malte Roesner makes his North American debut with West Edge this summer at the Mozart and Friends event on July 22nd, and then as Doristo in the 2017 Festival production of The Chastity Tree. Roesner is an alumnus of the German National Academic Foundation, and in both 2012 and 2014 he received the Richard-Wagner-Foundation scholarship. From 2005 to 2015, he was a member of the ensemble at the Brunswick National Theater in Germany, where he has portrayed more than fifty roles, including Enrico in Lucia di Lammermoor, Belcore in L’elisir d’amore, Ping in Turandot, Schaunard in La Bohème and Sharpless in Madama Butterfly, and more. Mr. Roesner’s lied and art song repertoire span the works of Schumann, Wolf and Haydn to those of Ibert, Mahler and Copland.
This summer Sam Levine performs the title role in the West Edge production of Larsen's Frankenstein. Levine has emerged as a “wonderfully appealing,” “ardent tenor” (The New York Times) making a name for himself across a wide variety of repertoire. A recent recipient of the Artist Diploma in Opera Studies at the Juilliard School, he appeared in the 2016-17 season as Váňa Kudrjaš in Káťa Kabanová at Juilliard, as Joe and Marcus in the world premiere of Three Way at Nashville Opera and the Brooklyn Academy of Music, Lurcanio in R.B. Schlather’s workshop production of Ariodante at National Sawdust, and as El Remendado and Don Jose in Carmen with Boston Lyric Opera and Bay Chamber Concerts. He is a proud 2017 recipient of the Novick Career Advancement Grant from Juilliard.
Soprano Aurora Perry studied at the University of Texas at Austin and completed postgraduate work at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz. Perry possesses a large opera repertoire which contains roles such as Euridice in Ophee aux Enfers, Temiri in Gluck's Semiramide, Susanna in The Marriage of Figaro, and more. She is scholarship holder of "Gerd und Margarethe Kramer-Stiftung" and was also semi-finalist of the International Iris Adami Corradetti competition in Padua. Perry made her American debut as Mitzi in the American premiere of Franz Schreker's Der Ferne Klang in New York's Bard Summerscape.
